Herring bone drainage system solves lawn flooding

3rd January 2018

You have to break eggs to make an omelette – so the old saying goes.

Well, we don’t know much about cooking. But when it comes to drainage, we know that sometimes you need to do some digging to solve a long term problem.

This householder was faced with recurring flooding issues in their lawn. After an investigation, we explained that the best way to sort it – on a reasonable budget – was to dig a series of drainage trenches.

This herring bone pattern of trenches allows the excess water to soak into the ground across a wide area – without causing a boggy mess where you least want it.

The great thing about grass is that a lawn recovers quickly from something like this.

The Probe team were careful to cut up the lawn in such a way that we could replace the sods once the drainage was in place.

A few weeks later, you would have been hard pressed to guess what lay under the lawn.
